The Tolbachinsky Dol is a large lava plateau 40 kilometres long and 20 kilometres wide. During the Big Crack Tolbachinsky eruption, which started in 1975, many red-brown coloured cinder cones were formed here.
From the outside it may seem that you have travelled to a lifeless Mars - there is almost no vegetation here.

A WALK ALONG THE CANYON OF THE STURGEON RIVER
THE PICTURESQUE RIVER CANYON, CUT THROUGH ROCK FORMATIONS, STRETCHES FOR 300 METRES.
During the snowmelt the canyon is filled almost to the brim, and during the drought period you can even walk along its bottom. Plosky and Ostry Tolbachik, Bezymyannyi, Kliuchevskoi and Kamen volcanoes are located around it.
POLENNITSA GORA
THIS MOUNTAIN IS A NATURAL MONUMENT AS IF MADE OF STONE WOOD.
In fact, it is one of the cones of Bezymyannyi volcano. During cooling the squeezed magma was split into small columns of pentagonal cross-section.
CINDER CONES OF THE NORTHERN BREAKTHROUGH
THE NORTHERN BREAKTHROUGH IS A CHAIN OF CONES FORMED DURING THE LARGE FISSURE ERUPTION OF THE TOLBACHINSKY ERUPTION IN 1975-1976.
At that time lava flows flooded an area of more than 40 square kilometres, and new cones up to 300 m high grew in place of the eruptions.
DEAD FOREST
A CLOUD OF HOT ASH COVERED A FOREST AND SCORCHED ALL THE VEGETATION.
This happened during the Great Tolbacha fissure eruption. Only dry hulks of trees were left standing among the ash desert, around which new life is now breaking through.
