Get to know the taste of Kamchatka: go on a gastrotour

Each of us has our own dominant sense organ, and this is certainly reflected in the way we travel. Someone is immersed in a new environment through hearing, saturated with the sounds of nature or the pronunciation of a new language for them. Someone certainly wants to see with their own eyes something incredibly beautiful... And someone wants to taste the area. It is for such tourists that tours with an emphasis on gastronomic Kamchatka have been created.

Our peninsula surprises gourmets from all over the world with its variety of products:
  • The flagship of any gastrotour is Kamchatka crab. The span of the claws of this sea creature sometimes reaches several meters. The most delicious is considered to be cooked in sea water. We take tongs, towels and start cutting right on board the boat.
  • Yukola. A dried fish or meat dish from the peoples of Siberia and the Far East. In Kamchatka salmon are dried. Back in the 18th century, a Russian explorer and traveler wrote that the indigenous inhabitants of the peninsula consume yukola about as often as Russians consume bread.
  • Five-minute caviar. We go fishing and prepare freshly caught salmon caviar right on the spot. All you need is a little skill, salt, and a sieve. And a rich fish soup named Ukhat; will be made using the fish.
  • Fish dish named Tel’noye. Did you know that this fish balls stuffed with potatoes, onions, and mushrooms is a Kamchatka national dish? Previously, instead of vegetables, as a filling, people used saranka, which is a forest lily.
  • Venison. Since Soviet times, there has been an enterprise in the region that supports the traditional way of life of the indigenous inhabitants of the north. Deer are bred in ecologically clean tundra on the mainland of the peninsula. Venison meat is valuable in every sense; the animal’s body produces linolenic acid, which protects humans from carcinogens. You can visit the reindeer herders’ camp in the village Esso.
  • Bracken. A wild plant is traditional for Kamchatka and “Red Book” for other regions of the country, for example, Yakutia. In our country, ferns are dried, pickled, and fermented. Recently, even a local bakery launched the production of pizza with fern toppings.

In addition, a gastrotour may include visits to restaurants. Here are a few “delicious” restaurants in Petropavlovsk:

  • “Dva Morya, Okean”
  • “Kamchatka Local Kitchen”;
  • “Nerka. Ryba Krasnaya”
  • “San Marino”.
